Summer is unofficially here, and that means it's time to take care of those maintenance tasks you've been putting off. Here are 5 must-dos to keep your home in tip-top shape.

1. Check your air conditioning
With temperatures in the Kanawha Valley hitting upwards of 90 degrees on some summer days, air conditioning is important. Make sure yours is ready to go when you need it and perform any routine maintenance to extend its life. If it needs more than a tune-up, be sure to call in a professional.
2. Be aware of mold
Keep an eye on any warning signs of mold. With high heat and summer rain, there's a chance for that climate to breed mold. If your fan is running continuously, then any moisture that’s condensed on your AC’s evaporator coil during cooling doesn’t have a chance to drain off—and it can be blown back into your home, according to Realtor.com

3. Prime your pool
If you're fortunate to have a pool right at your house, you likely know it requires maintenance. Test your pool's pH levels to make sure the chemicals are balanced and run the pump to keep the water clean.
4. Get rid of bugs
If you're outside enjoying the weather on your porch, the last thing you want to combat is a bug buzzing around your head. But there are a few ways to minimize them, like using candles or sprays meant to keep them at bay. Also, consider trimming bushes or shrubs near your home that can be home to wood-boring insects. Keep in mind, if you have a serious problem, it's a job for an exterminator.

5. Service your sprinklers
If you have an irrigation system for your lawn, you'll want to make sure that it's up-to-date and the settings are appropriately set to prevent your yard from damage. If you're not sure, always be sure to call in a professional.
